I can’t vouch for the quality of the denim, but the fabric shops on Berwick Street are at the high end (price wise certainly!) and they do stock some heavier weight and Japanese denims online:- https://www.clothhouse.com/shop/denim/

(Sorry the text for adding a link is so light. I don’t seem to be able to fix that. If you have trouble finding it, look underneath all the photos. At the left margin, there’s very light text saying, “Add your link”.)

Tamara, now you’ve got me thinking 🙂
Remove gathering
Add faux princess seams to bottom half of jacket
Add band to bottom of jacket
Add zip in line with princess seamsI’m now wondering if hacking the firefly might not be even better.
Angle the front overlap
Measure/draw overlap line
Add zip
Jacket already has narrow sleeves
May want to…[Read more] -

Liesl, are you referring to Jalie’s new (last year) Eleonore jean, shttps://jalie.com/jalie3461-eleonore-pull-on-jeans ?
It has been extremely popular over on patternreview,http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/73380 , already over 40 reviews! -

That’s a shame, I am to the point where I want and crave a nice, detailed and technical sew. I long for a four scissor pattern. The simple ones do get made, and they are wardrobe staples, but I fear I am going to get bored and it won’t be fun or a challenge any more.

I can’t even imagine the complaints we would get about the number of pattern pieces if we had lined it! People are very intimidated by a large number of pattern pieces. Never mind that it sews up quickly, it’s the number of pattern pieces. And that goes for the Lisette patterns too. If it has a lot of pieces people won’t buy it. Sometimes I get a…[Read more]

By the way, it really isn’t hard to rub off a pair of jeans that fit you well and alter the pattern to fit you even better. I should do a video tutorial for that one of these days!

I like Cone denim. And I LOVE the Japanese denim, but you never see that available as yardage. Sadly. But here’s a source for Cone that I contemplate every once in a while. I’d go for the 12.5 oz rigid. But that’s just me. And my relatively powerful sewing machine.

Sadly, Mood’s denim isn’t usually up to snuff. But like I said, I’m a really picky customer. I don’t buy jeans very often, and when I do I expect them to last for a really long time. I wear them until they’re more holes than denim. But I do have trouble finding a good fit, so I’d be willing to sew them if I could find the right denim (and time!).

Yes, @motherof5, yes regarding lining the Secret Agent trench!
I own the pattern and have never made it – and I admit it’s because I prefer a lined jacket. I worry that my version would end up too bathrobe-like and not be worn.
Could you link to your blog post about lining it and I’ll check it out…please!

I’ve heard the Jalie pattern is quite good. I’ve always resisted jeans because it’s nearly impossible to find really good quality denim! Any good sources? I’m picky, but if I’m going to take the take to sew jeans I want to use premium denim like you’d find in a pair of expensive jeans.

If your struggling with pants fit I highly recommend Fitting and Pattern Alteration by Liechty. It has a whole section on how to fit the crotch curve using a flexible ruler, the step by step intructuons gave me amazing results. I had previously made 3 muslins (practice goes) of Colette Iris shorts and couldn’t work out the fitting issues. I then…[Read more]

Hope you get at least one set of pajamas done before she goes!
I made lovely green dresden plates. We set them out in a number of configurations. I only realised afterwards that my favourite configuration is very reminiscent of “The Very Hungry Catapiller”! -
