the summer edit: rachel’s picks

You have already seen Liesl’s summer edit, as well as Rae’s (using her Lotus Pond fabric collection), now today I am sharing mine. Kids Clothes Week is just around the corner, July 21-27 to be exact, and it’s got me thinking about the wardrobe I would sew for my daughter C if I was planning a new wardrobe for her.

This was a really fun project that C and I did jointly. We sat down together and chose seven styles. Actually it started out at ten or twelve and was a little difficult to decide, but we narrowed it down to seven. The fabrics for this wardrobe are mostly florals from Liberty of London with a couple of solid fabrics, as well.

Oliver + S Garden Party Blouse in Liberty of London fabric

Garden Party Blouse in a blue Clarisse Tana Lawn. I have been seeing so many lovely Garden Party creations. It’s contagious, I need to sew one, too. This blue floral would make a nice sleeveless blouse and would be just right for those hot and humid days.

Oliver + S 2+2 Pleated Skirt in Liberty of London chambray

2+2 Pleated Skirt in Fairford Chambray. C loves pleated skirts and with it being sewn in chambray it will coordinate with so many different tops.

Oliver + S Ice Cream Blouse in chambray and Liberty of London fabrics

Ice Cream Blouse in Ella and Libby Tana Lawn and a light blue linen blend yoke. This loose-fitting blouse is perfect for the summer heat.

Oliver + S Badminton Skort in Liberty of London chambray

Badminton Skort in Capel Discharge Chambray. C loves the scallop hem on this skort and made in this fabric it’s going to be so pretty!

Oliver + S Class Picnic Shorts in Liberty of London fabrics

Class Picnic Shorts in Esteban Chambray and Wilmslow Berry Tana Lawn trim. A pair of shorts is a must during the summer months and this style is so cute.

Oliver + S Pinwheel Slip Dress in Liberty of London fabric

Pinwheel Slip Dress in a pink Clarisse Tana Lawn. I would do the bias trim in the same fabric. This is the perfect simple summer dress.

Oliver + S Birthday Party Dress in bright purple silk

Birthday Party Dress in bright purple silk shantung. Guess who has a birthday this month? C insisted on a Birthday Party Dress for her big day, and it had to be bright purple. Who can blame her? It will be gorgeous! So, there you have it, one fancy dress to round off the wardrobe.

What are your Kids Clothes Week sewing plans? Would you like to plan your sewing like this? Having the patterns with swatches of each fabric you would choose?

  1. Rachel, this is so sweet! I love all the florals. It reminds me of a story in Vogue from several years ago, where they combined all sorts of Liberty prints for a beautiful effect. Thanks for doing this!

  2. Love number one and five. 🙂

  3. I’m in love with your fab choices 🙂
I could easily take any of these pieces for my girl (I have the Ella and Libby Tana print already in my wish-list. Fingers crossed for an eBay opp).
