class picnic blouse as dress

Over at Lisette the other day I posted an introduction to one of our newest spring patterns, the Souvenir Dress. And I talked about how it was actually inspired by the Class Picnic Blouse.

While I was sewing my dress it occurred to me that the Class Picnic Blouse can easily be made into a dress, as well. I lengthened the blouse by a couple of inches (ideally, it would land about halfway between waist and hipbone) and added a ruffle. It’s extremely easy to do, and I think the results are really cute.

So now we have matching dresses!

  1. So very cute! I love the idea of matching dresses!

  2. But the dresses aren’t red gingham! Just teasing.:) I really like the way the Class Picnic looks in the dress version.

  3. Cindy, thanks for the laugh!

    So very beautiful. I can see so many variations to this top/ dress and it is so great to see this one.it is such a terrific pattern and I can’t wait for the new Lisette ones to be in Australia.

    You and your daughter look lovely in these pretty dresses. I will take advantage of this time in my life to make one for my daughter and me. Thank you.

  6. Adorable! I will have to give this a try!

    I’m personally not a dress person, so I think I’d do the reverse and make the souvenir dress into a shirt for me….especially if it goes together as nicely as the class picnic blouse.

  8. I have been following your blog and using your patterns since the very first line, and I cannot believe how big that little sweetie is getting!

    What a great idea! A modified Class Picnic blouse is my daughter’s favourite nightgown. I just extended the length to below her knees and added a 3 inch ruffle. It never occurred to me to lengthen the blouse a little and add a skirt. The dresses are so cute! I may have just settled on my next sewing project.

  10. Now I am thinking we need to get those patterns and make matching also!! 🙂
