how to staystitch

Staystitching is using a row of straight stitching within a cut-fabric pattern piece’s seam allowance to help stabilize an edge like an armhole or neck edge to keep it from stretching or distorting during construction. Staystitching is usually sewn on a single layer of fabric 1/8" from the seam line, so it won’t show after construction.
