mire’s cheerful prado trench

Do you remember Mire from our Advisors Circle? She recently sewed our Prado Trench Coat for her daughter, and I asked her to write about it because I think it turned out so cute! Here she is, with our thanks!

A few years ago, I sewed the Oliver + S Secret Agent Trench Coat for my daughter, and a few years later, it was a little sister’s turn to wear the trench coat. Both of them liked the trench a lot. This spring when trench  coats started to appearing in almost every shop, the girls started dreaming of a new trench coat. It was a fun surprise that Liesl released the Prado trench coat pattern, so I promised to sew a new one.

My teenage daughter got to choose the color. I refuse to sew black because I can’t see well enough to sew black fabrics. I suggested a cheerful color, and we found this green cotton poplin fabric. In my opinion, the color is a great choice for a spring coat. I love sewing coats, and I enjoyed making this one as well. Liesl’s instructions are always excellent. The coat project takes its time, but slow sewing is the best when you can savor sewing different details. There are plenty of details in this trench coat: the collar, epaulets, belt, cape…

Because the instructions are good, sewing each step wasn’t difficult. I didn’t make any changes to the pattern; I only added a hanging loop. One evening, I cut the fabric, and over a few nights and one Saturday, I worked on sewing the trench. I didn’t rush; I savored each step.

My daughter is happy with her new trench coat, and I hope it becomes just as beloved as the old one.
