Robert Kaufman Fabrics is probably best known for their Kona Cottons, which are used by many of us because they come in a wonderful range of solid colors, three hundred and three to be exact! Every year they do a Kona color of the year. I don’t know how long Robert Kaufman has been doing a Kona color of the year, but last year the Kona color was a yellow named Highlight.
The 2017 Kona color of the year is Pink Flamingo and it has been described as a vibrant, clean, and perfectly playful pink. It translates easily to girl’s fashion and therefore sewing for girls.
I’ve put together some examples on how to add some Pink Flamingo to girl Oliver + S patterns to get your creative juices flowing.
1) Building Block Dress
Everyone’s favorite new sewing pattern: the Building Block Dress, would be darling in solid Pink Flamingo.
2) Roller Skate Dress
A Roller Skate Dress would be cute in a popular Cotton and Steel fabric.
3) Hide-and-seek Dress
How about a Hide-and-Seek Dress in an Anna Maria Horner Loominous fabric?
4) Butterfly Blouse
You can add just a touch of Pink Flamingo. I think a Butterfly Blouse would look lovely in this pretty floral.
5) Swingset Skirt
How fun would it be to sew up a Swingset Skirt in flamingo fabric?
6) Butterfly Skirt
For a cute skirt try the Butterfly Skirt in this Woodland Clearing fabric.
7) Playtime Dress
And speaking of the Woodland Clearing fabric collection, here’s another possibility for you. Try this bird print on a Playtime Dress.
Was it love at first sight when you saw the Kona color of the year 2017? Do you have any plans in the future to use Pink Flamingo in a sewing project?
