Cross over top - better than you'd guess!

I was intrigued by this pattern when it first came out, but I found the photo to be not very appealing. I'm not sure what it is about it, maybe it's a bit long on the model? Or the pastels? Anyway, I had some knit material sitting around - I can't even remember why I bought it. I sewed this up. I only had a metre so I made the sleeves as long as I could, but they are 3/4 length(ish). This was such a fast sew. I did have to take a couple of tries at the point where the cross-overs meet the top part of the back. I sewed in a twist on my first attempt. I'd suggest pinning and then flipping it to the right side just to be sure all of the pieces are in the right place. This is actually a really nice top. I'm 5'6'' and it's much shorter on me. The crossover is at the top of my hip rather than at the crotch as in the photo. It's also more fitted on me (I'm likely not as slim as the model). The knit I used is fairly heavy and worked really well. There are no facings so this is just quick and easy. I'm now thinking that it would be really nice in a tshirt or light sweater knit as well.

Love this pattern for a wonderful pair of slacks - I highly recommend this pattern. The pattern instructions were clear (except I had my usual struggle with zipper instructions). I made a horizontal alteration for my petite figure in the torso - using the crotch depth line - and also in the leg for my short legs The fit was very complimentary! I used a ponte knit weight for my first pair and will definitely try another pair using Essex linen. They key to the flattering fit is the side seam that is slightly forward. Thanks Liesel!
