They are by far our best-selling patterns, and when working on a project, every member of the Sewn staff would prefer to sew from an Oliver + S pattern than any other.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re also big Michael Jackson fans. So, when I needed (yes, <em>needed<\/em>) to make an infant-sized MJ &#8220;Beat It&#8221; jacket, I went straight to the Oliver + S patterns. I do!<\/p>\n<p>With a few changes, and a <em>whole <\/em>lot of zippers, I turned that pullover into this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9677\" alt=\"nature walk pullover as beat it jacket tutorial\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto2-580x385.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto2-580x385.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto2-275x182.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In case you also <em>need<\/em> to make a Beat It jacket for your little moonwalker, here&#8217;s how I did it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robertkaufman.com\/fabrics\/corduroy_21_wale\/\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Kaufman&#8217;s 21 Wale Corduroy<\/a> in flame, YKK zippers in the color Grey Kitty, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelmillerfabrics.com\/shop\/basics\/mirror-ball-dot.html\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Miller&#8217;s Mirror Ball Dots<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windhamfabrics.net\/cgi-bin\/fabricshop\/gallery.cgi?func=show&amp;file=30&amp;Category=559&amp;Page=2&amp;v=1\" target=\"_blank\">Windham Fabrics Spin in black for the lining.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-9678\" alt=\"nature walk pullover as beat it jacket tutorial\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto3-580x407.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto3-580x407.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto3-275x193.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I printed the digital version of the <a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/product\/OLV-OS022NWD.html\" target=\"_blank\">Nature Walk Pullover<\/a>. To make the jacket, I didn&#8217;t need all of the pattern pieces. I used only pieces 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9679\" alt=\"nature walk pullover into thriller jacket\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto4-580x654.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"654\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto4-580x654.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto4-243x275.jpg 243w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto4.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I taped piece 1 to piece 10 to make the front pattern piece, and piece 3 to piece 4 to make the back pattern piece. Pieces 5 and 6 combined to make the full sleeve pattern piece. The back piece was the only piece that needs to be cut on a fold.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9680\" alt=\"nature walk pullover as beat it jacket tutorial\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto5-580x388.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto5-580x388.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto5-275x184.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mjpostphoto5.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used photos of the King of Pop wearing the iconic jacket to determine zipper placement, and inserted the zippers (22 of them!) before sewing the jacket pieces together. I put a strip of fusible interfacing on the wrong side of the fabric before cutting each zipper opening. I pressed the edges of the zipper opening to the wrong side, and pinned the zipper in place before stitching around the edge of the opening to secure the zipper.
