One of my favorite childhood traditions was being at my grandparents\u2019 house for the rowdy family Christmas Eve party and opening a brand new set of pajamas that my sisters and I would change into as the night wore on. \u00a0It was so nice to get out of those uncomfortable dressy clothes into cozy (usually matching\/coordinating) pajamas. \u00a0The party would end long past bedtime, and I’d pretend to fall asleep in the car so I could get carried into the house by my dad, only to awaken Christmas morning to kid paradise.<\/p>\n

Pajamas on Christmas Eve are a strong tradition for me, and my folks still carry it on even though we\u2019re now adults. If pajamas are a tradition for you too, or if you\u2019d like to start that tradition, here are some pajama ideas!<\/p>\n

\"pajama<\/a><\/p>\n

I have sewn many versions of the Bedtime Story pajamas, in various fabrics. \u00a0I usually just make the bottoms and then have the kids wear a t-shirt on top to keep it especially quick and easy. \u00a0These are shown in cozy\u00a0Fanfare Flannel<\/a> by Rae Hoekstra.<\/p>\n

In addition to the pajama patterns we offer, there are a few other patterns that would make great holiday pajamas as well! \u00a0To me, a simple knit dress + fun fabric = nightgown. \u00a0For instance the Hopscotch Dress<\/a>, shown above in Heather Ross’ Briar Rose knit<\/a>, is adorable and comfy for bedtime. \u00a0The pattern includes a long-sleeved option for warmth.<\/p>\n

Another dress-to-nightgown possibility is the Playtime Tunic & Leggings<\/a>, shown here in striped knit. \u00a0It might be a good idea to omit the buttons in the back of the dress\/tunic for comfort. When sewn in knit, the stretch makes buttons unnecessary.<\/p>\n

Here are a few festive pajama fabric ideas to get you started:<\/p>\n

Above, I’ve paired cozy flannels with coordinating bindings for a Christmas\/wintry effect. \u00a0The bindings can be scraps you already have on hand, or you can shop for that perfect combo! \u00a0All fabrics here are available at Hawthorne Threads<\/a>. \u00a0Pajamas are where crazy novelty holiday prints shine, too. If you want to go that route, now is the perfect time!<\/p>\n

For a less-traditional approach, I love the knit prints over at Kitschycoo<\/a>. \u00a0While less overtly Christmasy, they’re just so fun I had to highlight a few options that kids can wear long after the holiday has passed.<\/p>\n

Aren’t they great? \u00a0All are printed on organic jersey knit and could be paired with locally sourced solids for bindings. \u00a0For boys, make a Field Trip Raglan Tee<\/a> and some\u00a0Playtime Leggings<\/a>\u00a0(both now available as standalone digital patterns),\u00a0add contrast cuffs to the ankles, and boom! You’ve got pajamas!<\/p>\n
