I’m glad you’re so excited by our new Havana Pajamas sewing pattern<\/a>! Thanks for all the love. I hope you’re thinking about cozy pajamas and Christmas, because there’s plenty of time! (You could also sew our Oliver + S Bedtime Story<\/a> or Sleepover Pajamas<\/a> if you’re sewing for the kids!)<\/p>\n

I’ve been collecting photos of pjs in fun prints for you because I firmly believe pajamas are a great way to use fun prints, especially anything you maybe wouldn’t dare to wear otherwise! So here you go with some cute prints I found.<\/p>\n

All of these are so pretty, aren’t they? Cotton poplin or sateen would both be great fabrics for this style.<\/p>\n

The fun champagne print, above right, reminds me of something from Kate Spade. And\u00a0I nearly spit out my coffee when I saw the photo below. Very similar fabric to what I chose, no? (I found mine on Etsy, hand printed in India, if you’re looking for something similar. It’s available in a wide variety of color combinations, too!)<\/p>\n

And don’t forget that satin I was loving so much! I think poly satin is a nightmare to sew (it frays so badly!), but silk satin would be such a luxury… to sew and to wear!<\/p>\n

For fabrics I recommend printed or yarn-dyed light- to medium-weight cotton for good results. The block-printed tiger-patterned fabric from India that I used for the long-sleeved version is a cotton lawn, and I chose a a heavy yarn-dyed cotton shirting for the short-sleeved version. This is also an ideal pattern for Liberty of London tana lawn if you’re a fan! Much as I love them, I’m not a big wearer of prints EXCEPT when it comes to pajamas. Then I’m a huge fan.<\/p>\n

You could also use lightweight knits for this style. A good friend gave S a really lovely pajama set in a satin-y jersey when she went to college, and I’ve been admiring them ever since. This would be a great pattern for a knit since the fabric doesn’t need to have enough body to support a traditional button placket.<\/p>\n

Obviously you can also use flannel for winter, too. They would be very cozy, and I think they would be so cute in a big buffalo plaid.<\/p>\n

And don’t forget that satin I was dreaming about! So elegant!<\/p>\n

In any case, I hope these give you some ideas. I’ve also made a Havana Pajamas Pinterest board<\/a> with more photos, and I’ll keep adding to it as I find more ideas.<\/p>\n
