I’m so excited about our Chacarita Wrap Dress<\/a>! Are you, too? Today I thought I’d talk about fabric and styling options for this pattern, since it’s quite versatile and lends itself well to a nice variety of fabrics. So here we go! Here are a couple of my favorite samples of the dress from when I was developing the pattern. These are printed rayon. The first one, which looks like an indigo shibori, really shows off the bias bodice nicely, doesn’t it? You can play with the bias on this style, especially if you choose stripes or other directional patterns for the bodice. But I included straight grain lines as well, in case you prefer straight grain.<\/p>\n

This second sample, which is View B, reminds me more of a Marimekko print. You, too?<\/p>\n

And one more print. I absolutely love this floral with the black ground.<\/p>\n

So drapey prints are great for this pattern! But let’s talk about other options.<\/p>\n

My first fabric suggestion for this style will always be linen, just because I love how it looks so much. Take a look at these images of similar styles that I gathered. The solid color and slubby texture of the fabric always grabs me for its natural look and feel. Also, the ease of wearing linen in the summer just can’t be beat.<\/p>\n

Pretty, right? Neutral colors are so popular right now. But don’t limit yourself if neutrals aren’t your style!<\/p>\n

I also think a two-tone dress is an interesting idea. It’s got the ease of the wrap dress but almost looks like separates. Bodice one color, skirt another? You could make the ties either color, depending on the effect you want.<\/p>\n

You can use many other fabrics for this style, too. Cottons with some drape will work great. Sateen, shirtings, lightweight denim, etc. are all terrific for this style. Crepe, voile, and gauze are some other fabrics that come to mind. Any fabric with some drape will work well, basically. I think you could even use a stable lightweight knit very successfully–I might size down by one because of the stretch, and just watch that you aren’t choosing something too thick because of the facings.<\/p>\n

I’m really excited to see where you go with this style. I know you’re going to think of ways to use it that I didn’t even consider because you’re clever like that.<\/p>\n
