Here’s an idea I couldn’t wait to try when I finished the Tomigaya Shirt Dress pattern<\/a>: just the skirt!<\/p>\n

It’s really easy and quick to sew, and the smocking effect at the waist makes it unique and a little special. For this skirt, I eliminated the drawstring from the dress pattern and used elastic in all three casings. I chose unbleached handkerchief linen from my stash (the last of it, sadly!) and lined it with white cotton voile for the sheerness, which is part of the charm, I think. You can see I kept the lining a few inches shorter than the skirt itself to play with the sheerness.<\/p>\n

This one is fun to wear, and very versatile. In these photos I’m wearing a black linen vest from my Lisette for Butterick B6901<\/a>\/B6902<\/a> sewing pattern. I’ve been styling this skirt lots of different ways, which I’ll show you soon–it all goes back to that transitional dressing idea I was telling you about<\/a>… it pairs great with tall boots, for example!<\/p>\n
