I introduced you to our new Positano Blouse + Dress pattern<\/a> the other day. Today let’s talk about other inspiration and fabric ideas for this pattern. There are many ways you can sew and wear this style. I’ll show you a few of my ideas and see if they inspire you, too.<\/p>\n

I love this style in simple solid fabrics, whether in soft cotton or linen. Take a look at these similar examples I found.<\/p>\n

\"styling<\/a><\/p>\n

I love the look of this style whether it’s tucked into jeans, a slim skirt, or worn with trousers and under a blazer, and the styling versatility of this style is the best part, a great feature. I’ll talk more about that later.<\/p>\n

But you don’t have to stick with solid fabrics, either. How great is this style in a printed fabric, either large scale or a ditsy print? You could go ultra romantic and sweet or more graphic and modern. I think the blouse would be especially pretty in a Liberty lawn, but think of block printed fabrics from India or a contemporary printed fabric, too. Nani Iro double gauze<\/a>, maybe. (That would be sooo pretty…)<\/p>\n

\"styling<\/a><\/p>\n

And with the soft, rounded shapes of this style, think about contrast, too. Crisp shirting fabrics in stripes and checks give great contrast to that softness, with more drama and volume. Or choose something like an eyelet that doubles down and makes it feel even more feminine. Textured fabrics would be very well-suited for this style.<\/p>\n

\"styling<\/a><\/p>\n

And I mentioned embroidery. Whether by hand or machine, this is a great style to add those details. A hand-embroidered yoke would be so charming. If you choose to embroider by machine, I love these long stripes of embroidery, staying true to the grain line of the pieces.<\/p>\n

This dress could be great for winter, too! Wouldn’t it be nice with the long sleeves like the photo below? (If you like those tucks on the sleeve on the left, I’ll be showing you how to add those, too!) I think it would be really cute with boots and a turtleneck layered underneath.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned before, for the photos of View A I used a chambray fabric with a clip dot pattern<\/a> that I found at my local fabric store, and you may very well find something similar in your local store or online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For the View B dress I used a printed poly twill that caught my eye one day. The bold print is definitely not my typical style, but to me it evokes the Mediterranean coast, a late dinner overlooking the water, strappy sandals, and sunglasses. The slow, lazy days of summer, just ahead!<\/p>\n

\"styling<\/a><\/p>\n

Regarding the styling (by which I mean wearing) of this pattern, you’ve already seen a lot of variation in the photos I’ve show you here. But I’ll leave you with these two images, side by side. You couldn’t get two more different looks from the same pattern, could you? From ultra frilly and feminine to sleek and modern, or someplace in between. It’s your choice!<\/p>\n
