Hello friends,<\/p>\n

Sometimes when you’re between courses of a meal you need a little palate refresh, right? In my case, that sometimes applies to projects as well. It’s time to start designing the patterns for next fall now that spring is at the printer. But before diving into a new season, I sometimes to sew a little something just for the fun of it. How better to keep my passion for sewing from feeling like work than to sew something just for the sheer joy of it?<\/p>\n

I found a heavy-ish twill rayon\/viscose a while ago and have been wanting to play around with the Saint Germain Wrap Dress<\/a>, just to see what I could do with it. Given my propensity toward pencil skirts I thought I’d try putting the narrower City Stroll Wrap Skirt<\/a> on it. The City Stroll’s pockets seemed like a nice addition, too. As it turned out, I sewed the size 6 and had to do almost nothing to make the two patterns work together.<\/p>\n

I straightened the front edges of the City Stroll<\/a> to eliminate the curved hem and added about 6″ of length to bring it below the knee. The width of the skirt fit the extension for the Saint Germain almost perfectly, so I didn’t need to adjust the amount of wrap at all, which surprised even me! To keep the dress simple, I used hooks and eyes instead of buttons for the closures. And then, for some reason, I wanted a belt for it. The belt from the Terrace Dress<\/a> was perfect!<\/p>\n

The finished dress is easy and comfortable. I can wear it with or without the belt, and the fabric is relatively wrinkle-free for easy care. I’m excited to wear it! And I’m feeling ready to get started designing the fall patterns, too.<\/p>\n
