{"id":77919,"date":"2021-10-20T07:10:19","date_gmt":"2021-10-20T11:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/?p=77919"},"modified":"2021-10-19T20:44:46","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T00:44:46","slug":"asmitas-geneva-blouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2021\/10\/asmitas-geneva-blouse.html","title":{"rendered":"asmita&#8217;s geneva blouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>We can always count on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/elephantinthestudy\/\">Asmita<\/a> to sew gorgeous clothing from Liesl + Co. patterns and her <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/shop\/geneva-v-neck-blouse-sewing-pattern.html\">Geneva V-Neck Blouses<\/a> (both views!) are no exception.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I knew I wanted to sew the <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/shop\/geneva-v-neck-blouse-sewing-pattern.html\">Geneva V-Neck Blouse<\/a> for myself the minute I saw the pattern. The open v-neck and both sleeve styles that keep the arms covered seemed perfect for our long, hot and often harsh summers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-77922\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-760x1140.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"1140\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-760x1140.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-500x750.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-768x1152.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-2-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Fitting<\/h2>\n<p>My high bust and bust measurement fell between sizes 2 and 4 and I decided to stick to a 4 using the A\/B cup measurement. The muslin indicated that I needed a few minor adjustments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I did a 1\/2&#8221; forward shoulder adjustment.<\/li>\n<li>I took in the back pleat by about 1\/8-1\/4&#8243; because I have narrow shoulders.<\/li>\n<li>I raised the neckline by 3\/4&#8243;.<\/li>\n<li>I reduced the bodice seam allowance to about 3\/8&#8243; below the lengthen\/shorten line to add some ease.<\/li>\n<li>I shortened the top by 2 3\/4&#8243; so that I could wear it either tucked in or untucked (I am 5&#8217;4&#8243; for reference).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-77923\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-760x1140.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"1140\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-760x1140.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-500x750.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-768x1152.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Fabric<\/h2>\n<p>Given that I wanted to sew a summer blouse, both fabrics that I chose were light cottons. The pink, which is the first one that I made, has bell sleeves. I am not excessively fond of statement sleeves and in this case, the gentle flare really pleased me. I added a touch of embroidery for decoration and to cut through all that pinkness.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-77931\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink-760x584.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"584\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink-760x584.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink-500x384.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink-768x590.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-pink-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The fabric for the second top, jamdani, is quite a special one. Jamdani is a fine muslin cotton fabric woven with traditional motifs. The fabric comes from the eastern part of India, and Bangladesh; while not difficult to sew with, it is a very delicate kind of cotton which meant that I had to really pay attention to my sewing, and do a little bit of hand sewing as necessary.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-77932\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-760x1138.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"1138\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-760x1138.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-500x749.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-768x1150.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-1026x1536.jpg 1026w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-5-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sewing itself was not complicated, and as has always been the case for me with any new Liesl + Co. patterns, I learned a few new techniques along the way. One of the most useful ones was how to keep the back pleat centered. It is a really simple and a small thing to do, and now having done it once I am always going to do it!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-3.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-77924\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-760x1140.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"760\" height=\"1140\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-760x1140.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-500x750.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-768x1152.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/asmita-geneva-4-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The great thing about this top is that you have the option of making faux buttonholes. Despite my raised neckline, the top slips easily over my head, and so I skipped making buttonholes. On this very delicate fabric that felt like a small blessing! I loved this top when I first saw the pattern and having made it, I love it even more.
