I especially love the shape and finish of the hem. The curve is unique and the hem facings give it a really nice finish.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately after making my first version, I couldn&#8217;t stop thinking about making a version with buttons and a collar. I&#8217;ve made several <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/shop\/classic-shirt-sewing-pattern.html\">Classic Shirts<\/a> now and thought the collar and placket would be perfect with the Verdun. Here is a very brief tutorial on how I did it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-77421 size-large\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2-760x567.jpg\" alt=\"tutorial to add a button placket to the verdun woven t-shirt pattern\" width=\"760\" height=\"567\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2-760x567.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2-500x373.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2-768x573.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-1-2-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Pattern piece list<\/h2>\n<p>Pattern pieces you will need from the <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/shop\/classic-shirt-sewing-pattern.html\">Classic Shirt<\/a> (or another collared shirt that you like):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shirt Front<\/li>\n<li>Yoke<\/li>\n<li>Collar<\/li>\n<li>Collar Facing<\/li>\n<li>Collar Band<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pattern pieces you will need from the <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/shop\/verdun-woven-t-shirt-sewing-pattern.html\">Verdun Woven T-Shirt<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shirt Front<\/li>\n<li>Shirt Back<\/li>\n<li>Hem Facing Front<\/li>\n<li>Hem Facing Back<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Preparing the pattern and cutting the pieces<\/h2>\n<p>The only pattern piece that you will not end up altering is the Hem Facing Back. For the other pattern pieces, here are the changes you will need to make:<\/p>\n<p>Lay the Verdun Shirt Front over the Classic Shirt Front, matching up the corner of the top inside shoulder. Don&#8217;t forget to cut the shirt front in two mirrored pieces instead of one piece on the fold.<\/p>\n<p>Lay the Verdun Shirt Back over the Classic Shirt Yoke, again matching up the top inside shoulder. You will add that difference to your collar pattern pieces (again, see the area shaded in blue in the photo).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-77417 size-large\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5-760x570.jpg\" alt=\"tutorial to add a button placket to the verdun woven t-shirt pattern\" width=\"760\" height=\"570\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5-760x570.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5-500x375.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5-768x576.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/verdun-classic-5-1200x649.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will also need to add 1 1\/2&#8243; to the front of your Front Hem Facing (as shown in blue in the above photo) and, instead of cutting it on the fold, you will cut two mirror image pieces.<\/p>\n<h2>Sewing instructions<\/h2>\n<p>Now you&#8217;re ready to sew!\u00a0 Start with the Verdun instructions: staystitching the neckline, sewing the darts, and adding the pockets if you&#8217;d like. Then jump ahead to sew on the front hem facing. This will allow for a clean finish when you sew the placket.<\/p>\n<p>Next, turn to the instructions for the Classic Shirt, following them to make the continuous cut-on placket, turning the front hem facing to the inside of the garment so that it will be enclosed in the placket.<\/p>\n<p>Then sew the shoulders (you can consult the Verdun instructions if you need help with this step) before following the Classic Shirt instructions to make and attach the collar band, prepare the collar, and attach the collar to the collar band. Then stitch the back hem facing to the hem.<\/p>\n<p>When you stitch up the side seams, leave the hem facings unfolded and sew them together with the side seams. Fold the entire hem facing to the inside of the shirt and stitch as outlined in the Verdun instructions. Then finish your sleeves.
