Let&#8217;s just take a moment to give thanks for music teachers all over the world, shall we? Bless them and their ears. I didn&#8217;t get permission to post a video S and her tuba-playing friend took during class this week, but I can tell you when I watched it I laughed until I cried! They&#8217;re having fun, at least.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pinterest Picks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m so excited that <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2018\/10\/announcing-the-hollywood-trousers-sew-along.html\">you voted for the Hollywood Trousers<\/a> as our first fall sew-along, October 22-24! It might even give me an excuse to sew them in white wool like I&#8217;ve been wanting. I love the lace overlay on the dress, below left, although the dress pattern itself with no changes is pretty cute if I do say so myself, as evidenced by the dress on the right. Sounds like fun, which is something we&#8217;ve certainly been missing in fashion lately.<\/li>\n<li>Do you find yourself fighting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/09\/29\/opinion\/sunday\/in-praise-of-mediocrity.html?utm_source=pocket&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=pockethits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">perfectionism when you sew<\/a>? Obviously we shouldn&#8217;t avoid hobbies because of the stress to be perfect, but it&#8217;s always good to strive to improve, right?<\/li>\n<li>How do we break the fashion fashion habit and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/fashion\/2018\/oct\/07\/cheap-fashion-threatens-planet-vloggers-online-savioursdisposable-fashion-environmental-damage?utm_source=Subscribers&amp;utm_campaign=7e12bcde4b-fashion-s-new-world-order&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_d2191372b3-7e12bcde4b-416903773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">embrace sustainability<\/a>? This article has a few good tips, I think. (I&#8217;m constantly surprised at how many people don&#8217;t know about the effect fast fashion has on our environment. Maybe you can consider sharing this with a friend or two?)<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/03\/t-magazine\/fashion-week-trends.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trends for this year&#8217;s fashion week<\/a> (actually, month) weren&#8217;t very compelling in my opinion.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s finally starting to feel cool and autumn-y in Madrid, so <a href=\"https:\/\/smittenkitchen.com\/2015\/09\/broccoli-cheddar-soup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Broccoli Cheddar Soup<\/a> this weekend, maybe?<\/li>\n<li>Followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/smittenkitchen.com\/2008\/09\/moms-apple-cake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple Cake<\/a> if I get really ambitious. We have a huge kitchen in our new apartment and it&#8217;s a real pleasure to cook, especially on weekend when we can cook together. (Our kitchen in NYC was quite small, with just a tiny counter, so I&#8217;m not taking anything for granted.)<\/li>\n<li>S and I walked into a Spanish clothing store the other day to see what it was all about and there, front and center, was a sweatshirt that said Madison, Wisconsin on it. (I&#8217;m from Madison, so this felt really weird.) Have you noticed the <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionista.com\/2018\/08\/college-merch-apparel-fashion-trend-2018?utm_source=Subscribers&amp;utm_campaign=d0a3be3df6-lessons-from-apple-s-1-trillion-milestone&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_d2191372b3-d0a3be3df6-416903773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">collegiate trend in stores<\/a> lately? There&#8217;s a reason for it.<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/highline.huffingtonpost.com\/articles\/en\/everything-you-know-about-obesity-is-wrong\/?utm_source=pocket&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=pockethits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article on obesity<\/a> is on the longer side but very worth the time to read.<\/li>\n<li>We took some <a href=\"https:\/\/theculturetrip.com\/europe\/spain\/articles\/la-venencia-the-one-bar-you-must-visit-in-madrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visiting friends to this sherry bar<\/a> last week and had such a good time with them! Classic Madrid.
