The construction of the doll dress is the same, but seam allowances are 1\/4&#8243; instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attach the Yoke and Construct the Dress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Align and pin one yoke to the top of one dress panel, with the right side of the yoke facing the wrong side of the dress panel. (You\u2019ll notice that the top of the dress panel is curved, which will help the dress, when worn, flare at the front and back instead of just the sides.) Press the yoke flat. Fold one of the strap\u2019s long raw edges in toward the center fold, and press a crease into this folded edge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-61831\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18-760x509.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver + S Popover Sundress\" width=\"760\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18-760x509.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18-500x335.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18-768x514.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/18-1240x649.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Turn the dress wrong side out. Find the center of the strap by folding it in half, matching the short ends. Then pin the strap to the dress\u2019s armhole, positioning the strap\u2019s center point at the side seam and working toward the yoke, pinning the raw unfolded edge of the strap to the raw edge of the armhole. The right side of the strap will face the wrong side of the dress. Join the strap and armhole with a 1\/2\u201d seam. Take your time on the curve, taking care not to stretch the armhole as you stitch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-61832\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19-760x509.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver + S Popover Sundress\" width=\"760\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19-760x509.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19-500x335.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19-768x514.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/19-1240x649.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong> Press the strap toward the seam allowances of the armhole. Where the strap\u2019s length extends beyond the yoke of the dress, press the strap\u2019s unfolded edge toward the strap\u2019s center fold, as you did with the folded edge of the strap in Step 2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong> Fold and press the short ends of the straps toward the wrong side by approximately 1\/2\u201d; then re-fold the strap in half and pin it so that the raw edges are sandwiched in the center fold.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-61833\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20-760x509.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver + S Popover Sundress\" width=\"760\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20-760x509.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20-500x335.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20-768x514.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20-1240x649.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong> Re-fold the bias strip at the armhole so that it wraps over the seam allowances to the dress\u2019s right side, and pin the strap\u2019s folded edge from the right side so that it covers the seam line you sewed in Step 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)<\/strong> Working from the dress\u2019s right side, edgestitch the strap starting at one end, sewing down the strap, around the armhole, and up the other end of the strap, rotating at the ends to stitch across and give them a clean finish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-61834\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21-760x509.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver + S Popover Sundress\" width=\"760\" height=\"509\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21-760x509.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21-500x335.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21-768x514.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/21-1240x649.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hem the Dress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong> Sew a line of basting stitches 5\/8\u201d from the dress\u2019s raw bottom edge. This will become the fold line for the hem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong> Fold and press the fabric\u2019s raw edge to the wrong side along the basting line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3)<\/strong> Tuck the fabric\u2019s raw edge inside the fold to meet the line of basting stitches and create a narrow hem.
