She did a fantastic series about <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2014\/03\/how-to-preserve-a-pattern-introduction.html\">preserving patterns<\/a>, which included several different methods: <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2014\/03\/how-to-preserve-a-pattern-freezer-paper.html\">freezer paper<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2014\/03\/how-to-preserve-a-pattern-swedish-tracing-paper.html\">Swedish tracing paper<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2014\/03\/how-to-preserve-a-pattern-carbon-tracing-paper.html\">carbon tracing paper<\/a>. Sarvi created a lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/product\/OLV-OS036FT.html\">Fairy Tale<\/a> dress with a heart shaped cut-out back. She put together a step-by-step photo tutorial for us, so we can make our own. Here\u2019s the tutorial.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n1)<\/strong> Trace the back bodice, and draw in the seam lines. Although I was only working with the center back edge, I drew in portions of the arm and neck seams as well, to help me with placement of my cutout.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n2)<\/strong> Cut out half a heart shape from a folded piece of paper, to be sure the halves are symmetrical. I made mine about the size of my palm. I used a very light weight one for the heart shape, as I&#8217;m using a very light fabric and didn&#8217;t want it to be too stiff. I used a bit firmer one for the edge where the buttons\/zip will go. You can try to get extremely sharp points, and there are lots of little tricks for doing that, but I find that they tend to get a bit frayed\/blunted in the wash anyhow, so I leave them a speck more blunt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-58372\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10-760x507.jpg\" alt=\"Heart cut-out back tutorial\" width=\"760\" height=\"507\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10-760x507.jpg 760w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10-500x333.jpg 500w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10-768x512.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/heart10-1240x649.jpg 1240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>8)<\/strong> Finish stitching the side seams, and then attach your skirt, skirt lining, and zipper as usual. For the top of the heart make two small <a href=\"https:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2010\/09\/thread-chain-tutorial.html\">thread chain loops<\/a>, and stitch buttons on the other side. You could also sew on two little hook-and-eyes.
