There has been so much wonderful sewing happening around the Building Block Dress<\/a> book since it was released last month. Today I asked a few of our sewing friends to contribute photos to show you the clever dresses they have made.<\/p>\n

Miren of Solo Sewing<\/a> has become a dear friend since our stay in Barcelona two years ago, when we first met. I love the fabrics she chose for this A-line version of the dress with an external neck facing and pockets. She mentioned that she was inspired by 1960s swing dresses for this style. It turned out really great, didn’t it?<\/p>\n

Miren also used the Building Block Dress book to sew a space costume for a school play. Wouldn’t this be fun for Halloween, too? So much cleverness in this one. The hoop skirt is adorable!<\/p>\n

Speaking of costumes, I nearly fell over when I saw Emily’s dress. How adorable is this? The rainbow colorblocking, the scalloped collar, the admiring little brother… and the headband is the perfect finishing touch, isn’t it? Brilliant!<\/p>\n

Emily and Ashley of Frances Suzanne<\/a> always sew the most charming dresses for their nieces, and this one is no exception. It has such classic style. I think the white collar and cuffs combined with the sweet floral, the empire waist, and the pleats are so lovely.<\/p>\n

Jennifer sewed this corduroy version, and I think she did a fantastic job. The square neckline, empire waist, button front, and the print and color itself came together for a really pretty fall-winter dress. It’s so cozy! And this dress looks nothing like the original pattern, does it? As you gain more experience with the techniques in the book you’ll also gain more confidence to start taking the pattern into new directions like this.<\/p>\n

I was hoping someone would do an asymmetric collar, and Kelly totally came through! This dress is also fun for the smaller print she chose for the collar, cuffs and pockets. I just love this.<\/p>\n
