While there I found some wonderful fabrics, including the black fabric for my <a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2016\/04\/weekend-links-25.html\">Lisette trench coat<\/a> I told you I would be looking for. And I found lots of fabrics for our upcoming Liesl + Co. fall patterns as well, which was my big shopping goal. But mostly the weekend was about meeting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BE3NX9ayARK\/?taken-by=oliverands\" target=\"_blank\">new friends<\/a>, and we did that quite successfully, I think.<\/p>\n<p>On the personal sewing front, I&#8217;m hoping for a little time to cut out a Cinema Dress this weekend with this Japanese ikat I found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clothhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cloth House<\/a> (my new favorite fabric store!) as the yoke. I think this dress will be in heavy wardrobe rotation for me this summer. The ikat was expensive, but I don&#8217;t need much for just the yoke.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-55042\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress-580x566.jpg\" alt=\"cinema-dress\" width=\"580\" height=\"566\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress-580x566.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress-275x268.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress-768x749.jpg 768w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cinema-dress.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In other sewing news, I finished both suits for the <a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/community\/blog\/2016\/05\/swimwear-sew-along-and-link-party.html\">Lisette swimsuit sew-along<\/a> and can&#8217;t wait to show you! It&#8217;s quite an interesting look, I think, especially when worn over a feminine dress. This could be translated into a really pretty day look. One of these days I&#8217;ll tell you my own sweater story. First I have to finish mourning it, however.<\/li>\n<li>So you think you&#8217;ve got a big fabric stash? Not compared to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/video\/fashion\/100000004242222\/in-the-studio-dries-van-noten.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dries Van Noten<\/a>, you don&#8217;t! (See 1:50 when he talks about how he approaches fabric in his work.)<\/li>\n<li>Claire Danes wore the most amazing Zac Posen dress at the Met gala. Did you see it? Not only was the dress stunning in regular light (very Charles James, as so much of their work is), but in the dark it fit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovebscott.com\/news\/game-over-claire-danes-just-won-the-met-gala-red-carpet-in-zac-posen-photos-video\" target=\"_blank\">technology theme<\/a> of the show perfectly. Brilliant! Literally.<\/li>\n<li>The Business of Fashion is assembling a terrific <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessoffashion.com\/education\/fashion-az\/a-line\" target=\"_blank\">fashion dictionary<\/a> that&#8217;s worth a browse.<\/li>\n<li>Whatever that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/02\/t-magazine\/blackyoto-japanese-upcycling-vintage-clothing.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">black dye<\/a> is, it sounds amazing.<\/li>\n<li>I miss the New York subway station <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/blog\/2016\/04\/22\/art-underground?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_medium=referral\" target=\"_blank\">mosaics and public art<\/a>. Do you have a favorite station? Mine might be the <a href=\"https:\/\/ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/01\/the-hats-on-the-23rd-street-subway-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\">hat mosaics<\/a> on the 23rd Street N\/R train.<\/li>\n<li>Wouldn&#8217;t this be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgsn.com\/blogs\/blue-lab-amsterdams-wash-finish-innovation-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\">interesting class<\/a> to take?<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s fashion gets all the attention. So who knew <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/04\/12\/t-magazine\/mens-swimwear-lacma.html?_r=2&amp;mtrref=www.nytimes.com&amp;mtrref=www.nytimes.com&amp;gwh=F66637020F772D8B9F9835FF8BA41995&amp;gwt=pay\" target=\"_blank\">men&#8217;s swimsuits<\/a> could be so interesting!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Have a wonderful weekend!
