Not for any particular reason except that it somehow entered my mind that I&#8217;d like to add piping to the seam of the School Photo Dress. And when I did a quick search on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/groups\/oliverands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oliver + S Flickr group<\/a> I found this pretty one, already done. Isn&#8217;t it great? Since the print on this dress is large and rather busy, the piping is just a \u00a0subtle touch that breaks it up a bit so it isn&#8217;t completely overwhelming. Perfect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/nelesnaaisels\/5584708997\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3248\" title=\"school photo with piping\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/school-photo-400x599.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"599\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/school-photo-400x599.jpg 400w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/school-photo-183x275.jpg 183w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/school-photo.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(You can click on any of the images in this post to go through to the Flickr page for each photo where you&#8217;ll see whose lovely work each garment is.)\u00a0If the fabric was a solid or a subtle print, you could also add piping to the vertical seams to emphasize the structure of the dress. It might be easier to eliminate the front pockets if you do this, however. I haven&#8217;t tried sewing them with piping.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, I love the addition of \u00a0piping and thought I&#8217;d look around the Flickr group to see where you&#8217;ve been adding piping to your sewing. You&#8217;ve got lots of great ideas! Here are a few, just to show them off a bit. I love the gingham and think the piping really shows off the yoke seam. (The monogram is a nice touch too, isn&#8217;t it?)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/16001951@N08\/5773345653\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3244\" title=\"class picnic gingham\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/class-picnic-gingham-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/class-picnic-gingham-400x266.jpg 400w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/class-picnic-gingham-275x182.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/class-picnic-gingham.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the great things about piping is that it&#8217;s great for boys and girls. Adding it to the edge of the Sailboat Pants emphasizes the nautical aspect of the pattern and shows off the construction of the pants as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/12387001@N00\/5883555976\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3247\" title=\"sailboat pants with piping\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/sailboat-pants-400x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/sailboat-pants-400x600.jpg 400w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/sailboat-pants-183x275.jpg 183w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/sailboat-pants.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the Seashore Sundress is a perfect vehicle for piping, with all those seams that just beg for it. This version is subtle, and the rickrack is great addition as well. I like how you can see those little pockets a bit better with the piping, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/27858004@N05\/5716155769\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3250\" title=\"seashore with piping\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/seashore-lt-blue-400x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/seashore-lt-blue-400x533.jpg 400w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/seashore-lt-blue-206x275.jpg 206w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/seashore-lt-blue.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This version is much brighter, with the piping at the edges instead of the seams. I love the combination of the two fabrics. This dress was inspired by Little Orphan Annie interpreted in a Puppet Show Dress. Love it.
