A running stitch is an easy hand-stitched detail that can be added to a collar, a placket, a side seam or hem or lots of other places.<\/p>\n<p>These are a couple of shirts I found in S&#8217;s closet, both with a running stitch at the collar. I like the variegated thread colors in the blouse on the right.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3073\" title=\"Running Stitch Detail\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"Running Stitch Detail\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch-400x266.jpg 400w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch-275x182.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/running-stitch.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A running stitch would be an easy addition to the <a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/patterns\/skirts\/patterns6.phtml\">Music Class<\/a> blouse collar. It would be cute on the sleeve cuffs, too. You could also use it anywhere you would usually topstitch or edgestitch. In fact, when I was shopping yesterday I noticed a beautiful blouse that had contrast running stitch on pintucks in place of the usual tiny machine stitches. Easy detail, lots of impact on the finished piece. I&#8217;m still debating whether to add a running stitch to the linen Music Class blouse I finally finished making for S.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, it fits, even though I cut it out last summer.
