First press the pocket facing away from the shorts, then under so you can&#8217;t see the facing fabric from the front. I thought a longer length\u00a0contributed to the beachy vibe of the shorts, so I didn&#8217;t shorten mine at all to compensate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9043.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-11185\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9043-580x386.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9043\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9043-580x386.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9043-275x183.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9043.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Your waistband will look like this once the shorts are sewn. \u00a0You should have an opening at the back seam. \u00a0Now it&#8217;s time to add the elastic and drawstring!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-11176\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband-580x580.jpg\" alt=\"waistband\" width=\"580\" height=\"580\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband-580x580.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband-150x150.jpg 150w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband-275x275.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/waistband.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I use a safety pin in one side of the elastic and a clothespin on the other to make sure I don&#8217;t lose my tail. \u00a0Thread the elastic through the waistband as instructed in the pattern. \u00a0Sew the waistband opening closed. \u00a0Then take your drawstring and tie a knot at the end; thread a safety pin through that knot. \u00a0Insert it into one buttonhole and thread it through the waistband, pulling it out through the other buttonhole until even in length. \u00a0Tie a knot at each end and trim the tassels. \u00a0Tie in a bow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9076.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-11188\" src=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/blog\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9076-580x414.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9076\" width=\"580\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"\/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9076-580x414.jpg 580w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9076-275x196.jpg 275w, \/\/o.osimg.net\/community\/content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_9076.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re done!
