I&#8217;d even take a small piece and subject it to a bit of abuse&#8211; I&#8217;ve had old silk fall apart on me before. It seems to be fragile when wet, especially.</p>

Another tool I love is a white goat-leather thimble that I think I got from Purl. By far the best thimble I&#8217;ve ever had, and I do quite a bit of hand quilting.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I think you would add width for gathering to the pattern at the bottom half of the dart, extending to the hem. Then before sewing the dart, run your gathering stitches, then cut on the center line, leaving a good bit uncut at the point of the dart. Gather to fit, press, sew dart.</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I haven&#8217;t done the playtime leggings in anything other than cotton knit, but I&#8217;ve made up the nature walk yoga pants in a ton of different fabrics&#8211; stretch denim, jersey, Polartec fleece, cotton sweatshirt fleece. 									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My favorite holiday parade ever was when I lived in Honolulu ages ago, and the Dept of Public Works would put on their Christmas parade. Construction vehicles, street sweepers, garbage trucks, all decked out in decorations and colored lights and blaring holiday music as they drove around downtown. It was unexpected, sweet, and a huge hit with kids!</p>

You could put an interior casing with elastic at the back waist if you want to draw it in a little w/o the belt. If you do a contrast belt, maybe also do contrast sleeve tabs to tie it all together?</p>

I&#8217;ve used both linen and cotton shirting&#8211; lightweight stuff. On flannel tops I&#8217;ve finished the edges with pinking or zigzag stitches&#8211; too thick for French seams.</p>

I lengthened the legs by 1&#8243;, changed the back waistband to sew up like Class Picnic shorts, and finished the bottom of the waistband with a bias strip. I made them to go with a Tea Party sundress, and they&#8217;re great for my active 3yo. 									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve done the flat piping twice, once in a loose, light gingham with false French seams, and once in a lawn with proper French seams (lawn for both piping and dress). I wouldn&#8217;t try it with any fabric heavier than lawn! If I recall correctly, I did grade the piping when I trimmed things back before enclosing the seam&#8211; helps to reduce bulk.</p>
