I really enjoyed this season much like the others, it’s over so quickly and will now have to wait another 12 months before / if there is a new series. I agree that there was no real stand out as to who would win.
I thought that it was sad that May was let go, I thought her and Patrick were a good team. The new lady seems pretty good as well and very knowledgable. I have just found on the Book Depository that there is a book for each season if you need your sewing bee fix sooner!7 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMGlad you also enjoyed it Nicole! She was tiny, Im sure the sizings have changed since the 50’s! I agree with the industrial part of the costumes, they said that back then costumes were re used and changed for other actresses to save money. In particular that gold lame dress that was there in the glass cabinet was used on several other leading ladies at the time. At least they have been able to preserve what’s left of it. I really loved that beaded dress and jacket she wore to South Korea, classic and beautiful even now. Have you been to the NGV to see 200 years of Australian fashion? That’s my next outing..
7 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMI believe it’s a one off exhibition. A collaboration between Fox studios and a few different private collectors. The Director is very well connected and has had some amazing exhibitions. Nicole – the art gallery cafe has a great lunch menu, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy it too.
The National gallery in Melbourne is currently showing 200 years of Australian fashion. It’s next on my list.7 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMAussies – If you check out the sew tessuti blog – they have the most current episode from last week and you can view it with no issues. Enjoy!!
8 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMI just made this pattern (love it) I had the same question but looking very closely at the illustrations on the instruction page I could see that I wasn’t going crazy. The cape is a great fit and my daughter has worn it everyday since I finished it. 😀 I’m keen to make the mummy version now.
8 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMI recently purchased the lovely blue and white floral Japanese lawn from spotlight. I got it on sale and now my daughter has requested another roller skate dress and she picked out the floral. It will be on Flickr when completed. My local spotlight seems to have lots of lawn, plain and patterned.
8 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMThanks for the great tips Shelley. I did have a little play with the pattern pieces today and realise that I have plenty of fabric in case of a red wine spill or a mismatch in plaid!
Did you ever see the Great British Sewing Bee? I’ll imagine the judges scrutinising my pattern matching as I’m piecing it together!10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMHi all, I can report back that my local spotlight (Preston) in Melbourne had the following in stock today.
Ice cream dress
Swing set
Nature walk
Sailboat top
Hopscotch
Music class
Fairytale
Book report
Rollerskate
They had about 30 patterns on the rack, only a couple of duplicates, $15 each.
Happy treasure hunting.
10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMThanks Ladies. I have made a couple of the Straight Stitch Society patterns. I do have an apple pin cushion hanging around. Maybe I will give it to her with a few of the above to fill it up. I think making a pin cushion together would be fab! That will be this weekend’s project. A button jar is a great idea too!
10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMSuch great stories about sewing rooms or lack of. I’m lack of a sewing room but I do have this fantastic light filled nook in my dining room. I have a small Ikea desk (how great is ikea for sewing) with my sewing machine on it with notions in the one little drawer. All of my fabric is kept in about 5 or so ikea tubs in our hallway cupboard. Having a sewing room would be fab but I love my nook, it’s so bright, I have a dining table and large kitchen island bench just a few steps away. I can also watch my girls play in the family room or outside from the windows by the sewing nook. I love the idea of purpose built sewing rooms back in the day.
10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMIf you’re still on the forums April1930’s thank you so much for your tutorial link. I had made 2 bubble dresses and could not quite get the plackets looking great. Until I started my 3rd dress and found your tutorial, my 3rd bubble dress is almost perfect. Thanks again!
10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMThanks ladies, will try and gentle machine wash and iron when damp, hopefully it will come up a little nicer. It’s the most lovely chambray and I would hate to waste it.
10 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMHi Tamara,
I bought a travel iron when I travelled around Europe over 10 yrs ago and I found it struggled to get really hot so my clothes never looked that ironed. I have seen a really small iron in a fabric store for those small jobs. I’m sorry I can’t recall the brand but it might be worth a check?
11 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMI like to use voile and usually wait for a sale to pick up some as I like to use cotton only on the little ones clothes. Poplin is also good. Good luck in finding the right fabric.
11 years ago LINKLisaMM @LisaMMI’m in Melbourne and would totally fly up to Sydney for the day for an O&S get together! I I lived in Grand Rapids many years ago and it’s a lovely town. Enjoy.
