Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just scored 3 patterns and some of that awesome Modern Workshop fabric– if it hadn’t been for your posting, I would’ve missed the sale completely! My son has been complaining that he needs a new a raincoat, and my daughter needs pj’s. Along with those items, my daughter is also getting a new Family Reunion dress and a new trenchcoat . Yay!!! :o)

I have a son that’s 4 & a daughter that’s 19 mos…so far (fingers crossed) they both happily wear what I make for them. For the Cars 2 premiere last summer, I made him a special Lightning McQueen bowling shirt, and he proudly announced to anyone who would listen that his mom made it for him. :o) Since then, I have become a more prolific sewist, so he’s harder to impress now, but still happy to wear handmades. My daughter beams when I show her a new outfit I’ve finished and immediately begins to strip so she can try on her new clothes. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling to create things for those you love most? :o)

Thanks, ladies! I *SO* appreciate your advice– looks like I’ll be using tailors’ chalk! I’m planning a bubble dress with it, so there’s not a ton of marking, but some on the right side, which makes me nervous. And yes, I was very, very lucky to get this silk! A dear elderly friend was cleaning out his attic & came across a box of fabric that belonged to his father…he thinks it may be 50+ years old!

Well, I used to buy a fabric because I liked it, with no plan for what to make with it. Doing it that way, I ended up with alot of permanent residents in my stash, and a few garments that weren’t well suited to the fabric I’d chosen. Nowadays (read: since my discovery of Oliver+S & Lisette) I choose the pattern first, take a look through Flickr to get my creative juices flowing, then I head out & see what fabrics I can find to achieve the look I’ve cooked up in my head. The end result is very little stash (it’s more like a queue now) and lots of really cute outfits. And an infinitely happier husband. :o)

Thank you for your quick response! I’m thrilled to hear you’ve had success with a similar pattern, I can hardly wait to finish the current top so I can begin the next! :o)

Good question, Tamara– I’ve been looking for a great men’s shirt pattern, too! My husband has had several tailored shirts made (he wears shirt & tie for work)and it irks me to think of the money we could save if I had a good pattern that provided professional results (like the fab patterns that Liesl creates). Any suggestions out there?
