Well we did close it – but I don’t see why we would reject anyone at this point unless they were spam/scam accounts. I’d be interested to see if it shows up in searches for Oliver + S on Facebook, so if the link above doesn’t work anymore, that’s another way to join if it does. I’m pretty new at this so I’m open to suggestions!! 😀 we can directly add people too. Basically when you go to the group you click on Join, and it should say something like “Request Sent”. 🙂

    Hello all –

I am sewing a size 6, using a sweatshirt fleece (fuzzy on one side, smooth on the other) and discovered while hemming the first leg that a 1/2″ channel was just barely too narrow for my 1/2″ non-roll elastic. The stuff is pretty stiff, and the fabric is pretty thick – maybe a softer elastic may have worked better, but that’s what I had! I made it work, though (…by sheer force of will – my machine’s stretch stitch preset is a narrow zigzag impossible to remove without ruining the fabric – works great though – well, until it doesn’t anymore!), and on the second leg, I widened the channel about an 1/8″. There is luckily enough extra length it didn’t matter or affect the length of the legs.

Just wanted to comment in case anyone else is using sweatshirt fleece and runs into the same issue…! It’s a really fun pattern! Can’t wait to get it finished up. 🙂

I was mulling it over again earlier today – I personally have a RTW slub knit raglan that is super comfy – and I wouldn’t mind having another! So maybe I’ll just use School Bus and/or Field Trip for the slub knit fabric instead of a polo shirt (and I do have the Field Trip pattern – it’s one of my favorites!), and try to find something else for the Parachute Polo. Liesl – I LOVE Kaufman Laguna jersey – and I was drooling over GirlCharlee last night…! So I think I will redirect my thinking here for the Parachute Polo. I may not be able to get started as soon as I had hoped, but this delay will let me participate in the sewalong at least! And that rayon jersey cabana stripe may also just have to wait, or become PJs for me. 😀

Thanks so very much for the input ladies! And Liesl – you do amazing, beautiful work! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! 🙂

Wow, this took way too long! LOL

The dress is finished, it turned out lovely, and I blogged about it:

(disclaimer, my blog is very rough, nothing fancy, so be kind!

The verdict is, with some adjustments (number and positioning of pleats) it will turn out REALLY adorable on the final dress. 🙂

    Thanks all!!

Update! I decided to have a go at it and just completed a test dress today! I’m so excited!! I’m prepping an entry for my blog with photos that I will link to when it’s completed. I’m going to write up what I did this time and what I plan to do on the final dress. It was so much fun! Can’t wait to share it!

Here’s a teaser image for the test dress! Enjoy!

A tutorial for that would be awesome!! I’m making the 18-24 mo size and my sister is also making one, in a size 4 – we’re doing matching Easter dresses because we are big dorks. =D

Excellent point about the zipper – I had not thought about that. But I do like the idea of doing one pleat on either side of the zipper, that would be really lovely…!

Thank you so much for the links, Rachel – I ran across those after I had posted here and I love all the mods you did…very cool!! I do have a question though – why did you decide not to do box pleats all the way around on the dresses? That is what I would like to try.

I do have the Music Box Jumper template – and I do intend to use it – or at least use it as a starting point.

Thanks much for the responses folks!! 🙂
