Shortening the lunchbox culottes

I'm doing my prep work for the sew along tomorrow and want to shorten the culottes to just above knee height. About the length of the modelled version below. Question is do I take the length out of the middle of the pattern piece like you would on lomg pants, or just from the bottom given how wide they finish and the deep 2 inch hem? Any thoughts? Really Looking forward to making these! Just need to decide on linen or lawn. Thanks Lee
