Sewing Machine Advice

Hi! I'm relatively new to sewing. I've been sewing by hand for years (general repair, pillows, some stuffed animals, etc. Basic things). I'd really like to get more into sewing proper patterns, especially things for my toddler. There are a billion suggestions for a sewing machine online, but I just want something sturdy and basic. I don't plan to ever do embroidery or things that are terribly complex (like cosplay). Any advice for a good starter machine that isn't too complicated or expensive? I have no idea what settings to look for or brands to avoid. Thank you so much in advance!
