Pockets

Hi, I am making the dress version and I was going to add the pockets but I am a little confused. It looks, the way they are coming together, like the top/tabbed part of the pocket is just for decoration - it does not actually fold over the openning of the pocket. Am I missing something? I would have thought the point was to be able to button the pocket closed. If someone has made this version and can let me know if I am mis-reading the pattern, I would be very grateful!
