Overlock the neckband

When I attached the neckband to the first shirt, I began to overlock near the seam on the back of the collar. When I come back around to overlap a little bit, it is now double, and tends to lose it’s shape at the seam and hang down a little at the seam with a point. On the second shirt I began to overlock near the shoulder on the neckband so it is hidden. Is that the correct way, to begin the overlock, not at the back of the neck?

That’s the way I’ve always done neckbands; started in a less obtrusive spot (like toward the front, just before the shoulder seam) so that my ending (when it now becomes doubled) isn’t at the back neckband, with all that bulk.
