Corduroy Pants

I am hoping to sew some corduroy art museum and/or after-school pants for my almost-three-year-old for the fall. Do these work well with the light, 21-wale corduroy? I'm thinking that it will be too lightweight, but I haven't found a good source for heavier corduroy. Fabric.com has some 14-wale, but the color selection is much more limited than in the 21-wale. I was hoping to get some brighter colors. Thanks!
