A very lovely dress that is flattering to all body shapes. Extremely versatile and easy to modify to suit your personal style. I made my first version from a wool flannel which my daughter wore a tunic over leggings as well as a winter dress with boots. http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/4916169688/in/set-72157625139947517 The blouse version is trans-seasonal, cool and breezy for Summer and works well worn layered in the cooler months. http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/4916168736/in/set-72157625139947517 The colour blocked view works equally well in a corduroy http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/4613637919/in/set-72157625139947517 and luscious dupion silk http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/4859336453/in/set-72157625139947517 Although french seams may be used to give a flawless finish to the inside seam I find lining the dress/blouse works beautifully too. http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/ice-cream-with-some-body.html Some people have struggle with the back opening. My blog post above has a few tips for that too. The 'V' at the neck can be omitted but be aware, that can cause issues with a 'toddler' size head. Here http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/birthday-ice-cream-for-bethany.html I blog a few suggestions on tackling this detail. A satisfying quick sew which still delivers a polished garment.

I have made 3 dresses and two tops from this pattern. I love the construction of this pattern. You can use french seams on the sides and then the yoke seam is enclosed in the lining. It turns out really cute and comfy for my girls.

5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 My most used O+S pattern, 7/5/2013

    Reviewer: (Long Beach, CA, US)

I've made this pattern countless times - I've made it for my daughter, for gifts, as a dress, and as a tunic. There are many reasons for this - my daughter loves it, it's adorable, it's easy to make, and it uses up some of those random fabrics that one may buy and have no idea what to do with. As an example, I purchased a really screaming Alexander Henry print years ago, and never could find a use for it, but I used it in combination with a very tasteful red cord on the top and bottom panels so the screaming Alexander Henry fabric was toned down. Some folks in the forum have had a bit of difficulty with the back yoke attachment - my advice is to be brave/aggressive with your snipping to the seamline, and it will work out beautifully. I love this pattern!

    1. Please note that the first printing of this pattern contained an error in the cutting instructions for the small size package only (sizes 6M-4). The cutting instructions for piece #4, the Dress Bottom Panel, View A should read cut 4 instead of cut 2 on fold. This error has been corrected in subsequent printings.
    2. Please note that the yardage requirements printed on the pattern envelope in the first printing contained a minor error. As printed, the fabric requirements for View A, Fabric A will give you sufficient yardage to make the dress with a single-thickness hem.

If you have already purchased yardage, you can follow the directions for the View B hem to make a single-thickness hem. Or you can purchase additional yardage in order to make the double-thickness hem as discussed in the instructions for View A. Refer to the chart below for the additional yardage needed to make the double-thickness hem:
