Spring 2008 Quilt Market in Portland, Oregon gave us a terrific opportunity to meet many of our customers and to make plenty of new friends. We’re thrilled to welcome these shops to our rapidly expanding list of stores who carry Oliver + S patterns. And watch for us internationally as well! Oliver + S is now distributed exclusively by J. Leutenegger in Australia and New Zealand.
We love all the innovative ways you’re finding to promote Oliver + S patterns! And with so much creativity, we thought it would be a good idea to assemble some a collection of selling tools to help you get inspired and discover new promotional ideas.
For example, Fancy Tiger, a “DIY boutique” located in Denver, Colorado, recently held a special Mother’s Day event featuring Oliver + S patterns and a special project for children to sew while their mothers shopped.
Have you found successful methods for selling O + S patterns? Please drop us a line — we’d love to hear about them. We’ll include your tips in future newsletters as well.

We are proud to be featured in this incredible quilting and sewing shop located in Flowood, Mississippi, a suburb of Jackson. Offering an impressive menu of classes and products, Quilt Arts and QuiltArtsOnline.com truly represents the retailers who are taking the art of sewing and quilting ‘up to the next level’.
With grown children and time to finally focus on the rest of her life, Anne Robertson decided to follow one of her life’s passions for the past 30 years, quilting and sewing. “I wanted to create a contemporary space where people could find high quality products, take classes and be creative,” says Anne. “We’re quite pleased with the end result.”
Open since November, 2007, Quilt Arts offers premier pattern and fabric collections, quilting kits, notions, books, paper goods and even green cleaning products. The menu of class offerings is diverse and extensive. The shop also offers a full-service store on its website at www.quiltartsonline.com.
Anne and her business partner, Marianne Machost, say the shop recently hosted its first Oliver + S trunk show. “The show was so successful for us, we ordered one of their mannequins to display a completed outfit.” Additional outfits are also merchandised on a wall display. Robertson explains that showing ‘finished product’ samples are a great way to inspire her customers to purchase Oliver + S patterns and also choose from the store’s wonderful collection of fabrics and notions.
The new retailer believes that quilting and sewing products can be marketed to traditional sewers in addition to today’s fashion-conscious customers who appreciate the art of creating one-of-a-kind designs. Anne smiles and says the biggest compliment about the new shop came from her combat boot-wearing teenage nephew who said to his father, “This is not your Grandma’s quilting store – it’s awesome – it’s edgy, but inviting – it makes you want to hang out here. Dad, you have got to come and see this place.”
(Ed. Note: If any of our retailers would like to purchase children’s dress forms like the one shown here, please contact us and we’ll be happy to give you the supplier information.)

“made from a pattern by Oliver + S” licensing labels can be sewn into a garment before sale, bringing a professional appeal to a unique, hand-made garment.
We have been thrilled to receive so many requests for information from both sewers and retailers about the possibility of selling garments made from Oliver + S designs! Because so many of our customers asked, we took our time analyzing how to create a product licensing program that meets the needs of sewers, retailers, and our company and are now excited to present our Boutique Sewer Program. The program enables sewers to purchase licenses, at a minimal cost, to make and sell finished garments from copyrighted Oliver + S patterns.
Retailers now have an opportunity to reach out to the sewing community to solicit one-of-a-kind children’s clothing designs created from Oliver+ S patterns and legally market them in their retail and online stores.
The first of its kind in the industry, the program provides Oliver + S licensed sewers with garment labels indicating that the item has been created from an Oliver + S design and that it is being sold with permission of the company. A label will be affixed to each garment sold. Pricing for each license has been set at $6.00, which includes the Oliver + S label. Full details of the program are available on the Boutique Sewer Program section of the website.
Licenses are available exclusively through the company website at oliverands.com. Please see the website for additional information about this exciting new opportunity.
